Server terminal messages

Here are some of the Cmd messages that may be displayed in your server terminal, and the expected responses:

Message Description

x - <message>

Cmd notice message example "x - Parameter usage is in violation of rules!"

The system has been configured to display a message when you try to execute a particular action.

x - identifies that the message is from Cmd.

Enter your email for authentication

Cmd authorization prompt 1 - "Enter yoru email for authentication"

The system has been configured to prompt you for authentication when you try to execute a particular action.

After you enter your email address, you will be prompted to select the preferred authentication method. The list will display 'cmd' and all the 2-factor authentication methods that you have configured:

Next, you will be prompted to enter the corresponding password or authentication code:

If you choose to authenticate yourself via 'cmd', you need to enter your Cmd account password.

If you choose to authenticate yourself through the other 2-factor authentication methods, you need to enter the generated authentication code.

Please wait while someone is approving your request.

Cmd DUO authentication message - "Please wait while someone is approving your request"

The system has been configured to automatically send a notification to an authorized Duo Security user to approve the action that you are trying to execute.

If approved, you can continue normal operations:

Cmd DUO authentication approved - no additional message is displayed

If rejected, consult with your system administrator before trying again:

Cmd DUO authentication denied message - "Permission denied"

Please enter the Jira issue id

The system has been configured to prompt you for a Jira ticket number when you try to execute a particular action. This allows the system to update the Jira ticket to show the commands you executed to resolve the issue.

NOTE: The requested Jira issue ID is case sensitive. The issue ID must match what is displayed in your Jira project.

If the entered Jira issue ID is accepted, you can continue normal operations:

If the entered Jira issue ID is rejected, check the ID number then try again.

Tip: Be careful when you try again because the system may have been configured to give you a limited number of attempts.
